Mast Climbing Work Platform Achievement Award
Mastclimbers Inc
Atlanta-based Mastclimbers needs little introduction – Bobby Reece, Mike Pitt and Kevin O’Shea and together created a company that is both promoter of the mast climbing work platform worldwide, and protector, being at the forefront of efforts to ensure the safe use of mast climbers wherever they are operating, and in particular in the massive North American market. If anyone wants to know anything about mast climbers, Mastclimbers Inc is the first port of call. Its shortlisting recognises the company’s enormous and ongoing contribution to the mast climbing industry.
SGB Group
While Mastclimbers’ achievement is an industry-wide one, the judges also wanted to shortlist SGB Group’s mast climbing platform division for its technical performance on two complex and demanding projects carried out last year in the UK.
For a new building at Nottingham University’s Jubilee Campus, SGB had to install climbers on a sloping façade at a slope of 250 to the vertical. In addition, the company designed bespoke brackets to tie the masts into each of the building’s concrete floors. The second project, at Redcar Steelworks for Corus, required SGB to install 11 mast climbers to help contractors refurbish a 100 metre high gas holder. The climbers, standing on a 7 metre high bridge structure to take all loads down to ground level, were installed on alternate faces of the structure then dismantled and re-erected on the remaining faces. Both of SGB’s clients were delighted with the company’s performance.
