Merlo to launch telescopic boom platform

Merlo’s prototype telescopic boom aerial platform uses a design based on the carrier for its DBM concrete mixer fitted with a boom from its 38.16 Roto telehandler.

Merlo is to show the prototype of a new telescopic boom aerial platform at Bauma using a design based on the carrier for its DBM concrete mixer fitted with a boom from its 38.16 Roto telehandler.

The model, which will be available with platform heights of 15 m or 18 m, will be a much simpler and less expensive version of the Roto-based MPR articulated boom platforms that Merlo has been developing for past three years.

With a travel speed of 40 km/hr - the same as the MPR range - the two new machines will have 1000 kg capacity cages and weights of 11.5 and 12.5 t. Basket size is 4 m by 2 m. Preliminary specifications indicate that maximum 'on road' lengths will be 6.3 m for the 15 m unit and 7.0 m for the larger model.

Peter Grant of Merlo told IRN that the introduction of the less complicated telescopic booms didn't mean the end of the project to develop the articulated boom MPR models. Ten of these Roto-based machines are currently being trialed by customers in Europe.
