Los Angeles, US-based Continental Crane Co. has been appointed Kobelco distributor for the West Coast.

Continental represents the Japanese crawler and wheeled mobile crane manufacturer in the states of California, Oregon and Washington.

Continental takes delivery of its first machines, the 85 US ton (77 tonne) capacity CK850-III and 100 ton (91 tonne) capacity CK1000-III in September 2008. Additional units, including the 160 ton (145 tonne) CK1600-II and the 250 ton (227 tonne) CK2500-II, will be delivered in the first half of 2009.

Jack Fendrick, vice president of Kobelco Cranes North America, said, "Our sales in North America have grown six-fold since 2002, which is double the three-fold growth seen in the market as a whole over that period. With our expanded dealer network, we expect to grow our market share further."
