Kier and Bam partner for UK project

Written by Helen Wright - 21 Feb 2012

UK contractor Kier in a joint venture with Dutch company Royal Bam has won a site preparation contract in the UK worth over £100 million (€120 million).

EFD energy awarded the contract to prepare a site in Somerset, south west England, ahead of construction of the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.

The work includes excavation, earthworks, terracing, the installation of construction site infrastructure and formation of roads and networks to allow main construction to start.

The Hinkley Point C power station is set to generate about 6% of the UK's electricity when it is operational.

Kier chief executive Paul Sheffield said, "Both Kier and Bam have an excellent track record in the nuclear industry and enjoy a long-standing relationship built over many years of working together in joint venture. The Kier Bam team is looking forward to supporting EDF in its plans to deliver the first new nuclear power station in the UK for over two decades."
