IDE announces programme for Leeds demolition day

Written by Lindsay Gale - 24 Jan 2012

The Institute of Demolition Engineers has announced a preliminary programme for its Spring Seminar at the Royal Armouries, Leeds, on Friday 24 February 2012. The day's proceedings will be opened by president John Woodward's Welcome Address after which will follow a number of project reports and other reports on topics of particular interest to the industry.

Civil demolition work will be covered by papers from Armac's Noel McLean, who will report on the demolition of the Calthorpe road interchange, Coleman and Company's Chris Holland, who will report on the award-winning work his company carried out at Birmingham New Street Railway Station (this project gained D&Ri's Demolition Contract of the Year 2011) and Brown & Mason's Alex Hadden, covering the demolition work at the Dunamenti Power Plant near Budapest in Hungary.

Other projects that will be covered in the programme will include nuclear demolition activities described by IDE vice president Steve Jack and the demolition of dockside cranes by Graham Gilbert.

NFDC chief executive Howard Button will open the afternoon sessions with a review of the changes to existing NFDC Guidance Notes. Howard will also give an overview of the new high reach training course that the Federation has put in place for high reach machines up to 30 m (98 ft).

During the morning session, changes that will be required in working practices that will be required by  the UK's new Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 will be covered by Terry Jago.

The above programme may be subject to change. For further information on the event, go to www.demolitionengineers.net.
