  • It seems the pressure by Doga Dernegi and other environmental organizations is working. The Austrian foreign minister just acknowledged that Turkey has failed to comply with the social and environmental conditions which were part of the guarantee contracts. See www.internationalrivers.org/en/node/3630/ . The guarantee agencies would lose all credibility if they kept funding the project after this public acknowledgment.

  • Here in the US, we are planning the devolution of our dams, and there is other technology to harvest electricity from flowing water without the dam. Why do we fund its imposition on other people?
