Scheuerle Fahrzeugfabrik in Germany has delivered 24 axle lines of SPMT (self propelled modular transporter) to the ASC shipyard in Australia.

They will transport large ship sections (blocks) at the largest military shipyard in Australia. At the Adelaide facility in the south of the country three ships will be built for the Royal Australian Navy. Each ship is in 27 blocks. Dimensions of these blocks are are around 15 x 15 x 12 m (length, width, height) and weigh about 300 tonnes.

Manufacturing is off site and the blocks are delivered to ASC by barge or ship. On arrival, the 24 SPMT axle lines, flexibly coupled in an open compound depending on block size and weight, will move the loads into position to be joined together.

Powering the SPMT combinations will be, depending on the size of the block, one or two 476 hp Scheuerle power packs.
