Since March of last year Belgian general rental company Euro Rent has increased its access fleet by adding €1.5 million worth of Layher scaffolding, growing its fleet of De Jong hoists to 150, and ordering 12 large aerial platforms from Genie.

Kris Coppens, general manager of the company, which rents as well in the southern part of The Netherlands and as far south as Paris, said the Genie machines include the 18 m working height 5390 RT scissor and the 18 m working height Z-51/30J RT articulated boom models. Receipt of the 12 machines, ordered last December, would bring his aerial fleet to 30 units.

The company is looking for a site to supplement the current 15000 m2 depot in Antwerp, said Mr Coppens. He hopes to open the second facility by the second quarter, and he may split off the growing lift business into a separate division.

“I didn’t believe in this market because several strong players in the Antwerp area would drop their rates to get the business. I always thought we needed 300 machines to be successful, but our [general rental] customers have been asking for this equipment,” he said.

Mr Coppens told AI that overall about 60% of his powered access rental is for construction activities and 40% to industrial companies. The mix for scaffolding rental is about 50/50. The company has rented access equipment – trailer-mounts -- since its founding in 1972, and it began renting hoists in 1996. Last year it became a dealer for De Jong liften BV.
