Caterpillar has introduced three new tracked loaders into the North American market

Caterpillar has extended its range of rubber-tracked compact loaders through the addition of the 9,892 lb (4,487 kg) 279C, 10,365 lb (4,702 kg) 289C and 10,730 lb (4,867 kg) 299C models. The new machines feature a freshly engineered suspension undercarriage along with the company’s chassis from its multi-terrain loader counterparts, the 277C, 287C and 297C.  This provides superior ride and excellent bucket load retention, claims Caterpillar.

The 279C has a rated capacity of 3,200 lb (1,451 kg) at 50% of tipping load. Its net horsepower is 82 hp (61 kW). Similar figures for the 289C and 299C are 3,850 lb (1,746 kg) with 82 hp and 4,150 lb (1,882 kg) with 90 hp (67kW), respectively.

Power for all three comes from a Cat C3.4T four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.

All three feature two speed drive systems, with a maximum travel speed of 8.5 mph (13.7 km/h) to provide rapid transit around large sites. Electro-hydraulic joystick control of the drive motors provides straight-line tracking and electronic torque management optimises productivity.
