Belgian-based NeyPoulissen Architects & Engineers has won the competition to design and construct the new De Oversteek bridge in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

NeyPoulissen worked with contractors BAM and Max Bögl to complete the winning design.

The 1.2 km-long project includes a 285 m-long tied-arch bridge over the River Waal.

This new bridge will connect the western part of Nijmegen to the ring road and allow redevelopment of the southern docklands.

The 1 km-long approach viaducts will use masonry bricks in an echo of the city's Roman heritage, while the piers will be constructed suing in-situ concrete.
