UK temporary power provider Aggreko has announced it will power the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

Glasgow 2018

Glasgow 2018 European Championships will take place from 2012 August.

The company will provide both temporary and continuous power during the Championships’ competition and non-competition venues in August.

The contract will see Aggreko provide around 60 generators supplying more than 10MVA, distributed through more than 240 panels and 26km of cable. The power will help to deliver 84 sessions of sport, including open water swimming at Loch Lomond and mountain biking at Cathkin Braes.

The European Championships will take place from 2-12 August next year.

The company will also help to power Festival 2018 – a cultural programme that will showcase music, visual art, street art, dance, theatre and digital art across the city, with Glasgow’s George Square its main destination.

Robert Wells, managing director, Aggreko Major Events Services, said, “We’re proud to support the first staging of the prestigious Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

“We look forward to working with the team and Glasgow city to ensure the faultless delivery of power to the Championships. There is no better place to do this than in Scotland.”

Aggreko recently announced its third-quarter results, showing signs of struggle through its Argentinian operations. Most notably, its Power Solutions Utility segment revenues dropped 15% year-on-year, driven by repricing and off-hires in Argentina.
