EIC takes stand on corruption
European International Contractors (EIC), a trade association that represents European contractors working outside their national boundaries, has published a draft position paper on corruption prevention.
H&S Campaign
A new 2-year campaign by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work could help reduce accidents and fatalities in the construction industry by promoting and demystifying ‘risk assessment.’ FIEC will play an active part in the campaign
Growth again
The European market for construction equipment grew again last year and, according to the latest CECE economic report, exports once again accelerated.
Russian representation
The start of this year saw the first ever construction equipment trade association in Russia established. The group aims to lobby on technical issues, establish statistical exchanges and work on trade issues.
REACH impact
The new REACH legislation on chemicals will mean construction companies and workers are given more information about the risks associated with materials they deal with. FIEC is involved in initiatives to ensure this is done effectively, and that information can travel up and down the supply chain.
Keeping global markets open
In a speech earlier this year, Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, noted that in times of big changes and uncertainties, globalisation is increasingly perceived as a threat.

ERA Convention Programme

Samoter Preview
If Conexpo is the major global show this year, the Samoter exhibition in Verona, Italy, is the biggest European general construction show of the year. It’s timing could be better – the week before Conexpo – but it will be well worth a visit, as many European manufacturers will use it to launch new products.

John Ball elected IPAF president
John Ball, newly elected president of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), said his priorities during his two years in office would be to raise IPAF's profile in developing access markets such as central and eastern Europe and to see "tangible" progress in its North American activities.
Lead Market Initiative
The development of sustainable construction practices is one of six key areas singled-out by the Commission's Lead Market Initiative. FIEC believes this could lead to better regulation, more standardisation and greater efficiency in the industry.
