Recycling role for Extec
01 May 2008
A US crushing and screening recycler is using an extensive fleet of Extec mobile screens, working with mobile crushers, to provide an onsite recycling capability to demolition contractors around the greater Baltimore area. Patuxent Materials Inc (PMI is headquartered at Crofton in Maryland and the company is one of the largest concrete and asphalt recyclers in the state, offering contract portable crushing and screening either on site or at the contractor’s materials yard. In addition to its HQ, it owns another dump centre in the city of Baltimore itself.
According to crushing operations manager Matt Andrews: “we cannot justify moving a crusher, a screening plant and a stacker for less than 10,000 tonnes to crush. And the contractor cannot justify the higher crushing costs per ton of the quantity is less than 10,000 tonnes.” Where volumes are below this number, contractors either self-haul the waste to one of PMI’s dump sites for processing, or use PMI’s own transportation capabilities
PMI currently operates four portable crushing-screening plants that in operation all year. Each consists of Extec crushers and screens – the latter being a mix of E7 screens and S5 Doublescreens.
Main production is of RC-6, 1.5 inch minus), RC-2 (2.5 inch to 1.5 inch) and RC Surge (5inch to 3 inch), which are proving very popular sizes for construction projects, which is where most of the company’s output ends up.
