New energy piles from Centrum Pæle

09 October 2019

Danish manufacturer Centrum Pæle explains how installing heat exchange pipes into the piles and connecting them to a heat pump, makes it possible to heat and cool a building using the Earth’s renewable resources. Centrum calls this solution energy piles.

How does it work?

During the summer as the Sun warms up a building, the heat passes through heat exchange pipes, down through the energy piles to cool the building.

During the winter, the energy that that has been stored in the foundations can then be usd through the heat pump to warm up both the building and the water supply.

The company says that its method of utilising geothermal energy can help towards the European goal of a fossil-fuel free energy system by 2050.
