Rhodar starts regeneration process

Specialist enabling works provider Rhodar has completed the demolition of the former Asda Merchandising Centre of Excellence building in Leeds, United Kingdom.

Located on the iconic former Tetley Brewery site in the city centre, the steel portal frame of the building covered around 9,300 sq m (100,000 sq ft) and took 10 weeks to strip out and dismantle.

Razed to ground floor slab level, nearly 1,800 t of brick and mixed metal was removed and recycled. A further 220 t of general waste was also removed from the site, along with fixtures and fittings.

The demolition was part of the first stage of a larger regeneration plan that aims to almost double the size of Leeds city centre. Managed by real estate developer Vastint UK Services, the regeneration project will include a new city park, homes, employment spaces and hotels.
