Waste not want not at Mercian

Mercian Skip Hire, based in Birmingham, United Kingdom has invested heavily in new plant and machinery including a deal for Hyundai excavators and wheeled loaders through local dealer Molson Group.

Hyundai supplied a HX220L hydraulic excavator to Mercian Skip Hire, a company that achieves an average recycling rate of 98%

Mercian’s transfer station currently processes on average around 30,000 t of commercial, industrial and construction waste every year, with an average recycling rate of 98%.

It recently invested in a fleet of eight Scania skip wagons and has ambitious plans to expand its operator’s licence.

The conversion to Hyundai’s Korean built machines has come after several years using equipment from other manufacturers.

“We did take demonstration models from all the major players and really did our homework evaluating the machines like for like,” said site manager Stephen Shiels.

“We really liked the look of the Hyundais and felt that they represented excellent value for money, and the feedback from our operators was also very good regarding the Hyundai’s. Other end users recommended the brand too.

“Molson offered the best overall deal, so we went with them and opted for the premium extended warranty package. For us it’s literally a case of just adding fuel, which offers us great peace of mind going forward.”

The newest machine on the fleet is a HX220L hydraulic excavator, fitted with a fixed demo style grab mounted via a Geith fully automatic hydraulic quick hitch which it uses to load the shredder.
