The build-up to this year's Intermat has been a bit mixed with so many prominent players choosing not to attend. The recent announcement that UpRight would exhibit at the show was a positive shot in the arm.

Darren Kell, UpRight's chief executive, said, "At a time when other powered access manufacturers are making big cuts in sales and marketing, we are stepping up our investment.

"Most of our competitors have pulled out of Intermat, but we still want to take part, in order to fully support our distributors."

UpRight plans to show a wide range of equipment including, it said, "Some of our latest innovations." One such machine is the XT24AL trailer mounted scissors, originally launched at Apex at the latter end of 2008. The 6.7 m (22 ft) XT24AL is a "tow-and-go" solution that offers quick, simple working at height designed to be more cost effective than a self-propelled scissor.

Haulotte has been teasing us with talk of something new for the show, but has decided to keep it under-wraps until the exhibition opens. We do know that the company will be showing the new HA 120 PX, 12 m working height, rough terrain, articulating boom. This model is designed to be particularly suitable for applications in maintenance and repair, heating and air conditioning and inspecting electric installations. The HA120 PX will replace the HA12 PX. .

Skyjack will show its SJ 51 AJ articulating boom for the first time at Intermat. The machine has 51 m platform height and a 9.1 m outreach. Skyjack's A-series articulating boom lifts are distinguished by 3600 turret rotation with zero tail-swing. The design provides a flexible access solution in tight working locations.

French vertical-mast platform manufacturer ATN is choosing to debut its 12.2 m working height Zebra 12 model at Intermat. It is the company's first articulated boom - having specialised in vertical mast machines - and its first diesel-powered model. The Zebra 12 has a 230 kg maximum basket capacity and 8.5 m of maximum outreach. Sales manager Patrick Biasin tells AI that 16 m working height and, eventually, 20 m machines will follow.

The truck mount fraternity have plenty of innovations to interest the visitor. Shown as a computer simulation at APEX, Ruthmann will launch its Steiger T470 truck mounted aerial platform at Intermat. The Steiger T470 has a 47 m working height and 32 m outreach; it is mounted on a double axel 18 t GVW chassis which has a total vehicle length of just 10.5 m By redesigning the boom Ruthmann has created a structure which minimises weight and is still strong.

Oil and Steel is launching four new models at Intermat: the Snake 1770 Compact and the Snake 2512 and two models in a new Octopussy EVO tracked range.

The Snake 1770 Compact is, installed on a 3.5 t truck, it has a maximum working height of 17 m and maximum working of 7 m. The stabilisation system called "in shape" allows the machine to be stabilised in few seconds, in minimal space, enabling the operator to park the platform in narrow spaces without invading the road or the pavements. The Snake 2512 Compact is shown on an Iveco Daily 6 t. The maximum working height is 25 m and the maximum working outreach is 12 m.

Oil & Steel says that Octopussy 1500 EVO and the Octopussy 1800 EVO represent the evolution of the tracked spider platform.

GSR is exhibiting with French company Nacelles Services. The company will show the E200PXS on a Nissan Cabstar: a E140TJV on Ford Transit van and E290PX on Iveco Eurocargo 120.

The design of the stabilisers and pantographs give the E200PXS a stowed height of less than 2.5 m; a narrow footprint of stabilisers within the mirror width of the vehicle and increased levelling capability through the rear vertical outriggers.

The E140TJV was launched at the Apex show, and is now available as a chassis version (see attached picture). At Intermat the van mounted model will be shown.
GSR says that the E290PX is the only 29 m double articulated platform with narrow jacking (4 vertical jacks) on a 12 ton chassis with 250kg basket capacity.

On the Palfinger stand you can see the massive Wumag WT 1000, 100m platform height, truck mount; the smaller WT 450 and, from the Bison range, the BisonTKA 28 KS.

Standing tall at CTE's stand will be its 50.7 m working height Bizzocchi 510 HR and launched at last year's SAIE in Italy. The 26 t GVW model has a maximum outreach of 34.5 m with 120 kg in the basket, and 28.3 m with 450 kg.

Also from the Italian company is the 17 m working height crawler, the Traccess 170, wearing the markings of the new brand the Italian company announced earlier this year. The 2050 kg machine provides a maximum basket capacity of 200 kg, has a turret rotation of 330º, and access flexibility stemming from its double-knuckle and telescoping boom and jib.

Italian manufacturer Maber will be showing its range of rack and pinion goods and goods/passenger hoists. The company plans to demonstrate the quality, reliability, simplicity and the safety of its products which it says are particularly suitable in building restoration and refurbishment work, as well as in building construction. All Maber products are equipped with an extra safety brake, that has been patented by the company and, which engages should the descent speed exceed the normal rated speed.

New telehandlers at Intermat include the prototype of Merlo's 4000 kg, "super compact" P25.6 telehandler and Bobcat's compact 4.5 t T2250.

The 1800 mm width of Merlo's P25.6 telehandler was first seen from the Italian company in the design of the P20.6 SC of the early 90's.Despite its narrow profile, the new machine carries the 995 mm wide standard cab of the Italian company's telehandler line. A 50 kW diesel engine gives the P25.6 a maximum lift capability of 2500 kg to a height of 6 m.

Bobcat's T2250 telehandler has maximum lift capacity of 2.2 t and a maximum lift height of 5.2 m.
