No luck for US with 13th consecutive quarterly decline

Global exports of US-made construction equipment fell 25% for the first quarter of 2016, according to a report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
AEM reported that US sales to foreign markets totalled US$ 2.7 billion, marking the 13th consecutive year-over-year decline for exports.
It highlighted significant declines in sales to both Africa (down 49% to $ 107 m) and South America (down 47% to $ 258 m).
Most significantly, from a revenue perspective, exports to Canada fell 28%, to a total of $ 1.1 billion.
Exports to Central America remained stable, while there was a slight uplift (5%) in Europe.
All other reported markets, including Asia (down 37%) showed declines.
AEM’s director of market intelligence, Benjamin Duyck, said the continuing downturn was linked to the strong US dollar, impacting on the competitiveness of US-made equipment.
