The New South Wales (NSW) government in Australia is to spend AUD$6.4 billion (US$4.3 billion) on the Sydney Metro West rail project over the next for years.

The NSW government, which recently published its 2019-2020 budget, said that the AUD$6.4 billion investment demonstrates that it will deliver on its promises.

Andrew Constance, Minister for Transport, said the decision to fast-track construction was only possible because of the NSW government’s strong economic management.

“We always said we would build Metro West as fast as possible. This commitment in the State Budget shows that when we commit to doing something, we mean business.”

According to Constance, the Sydney Metro West will cut travel times and more than double the existing rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney central business district.

Construction on Sydney Metro West is due to start next year.
