Each year seems to bring a new marketing phenomenon or a buzzword likely to stick around for a few months. At a recent media sales forum, the following were the headline trends we expect to see in 2019:
- Less spend going to Google and Facebook
- Increased ad blocking
- Rise of multi-platform content strategies
- Amazon / Snapchat growing ad share
- SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) spend reducing
- Increase in mobile and video advertising
- Voice search increasing (increase predicted to be 50% by 2020)
- Subscriptions to print media increasing – more independent magazines launched in 2018 than in any year in the previous 10
- Print media in general growing – see examples of ITV (https://www.itv.com/presscentre/press-releases/itv-launches-new-consumer-magazine) and Facebook (https://money.cnn.com/2018/06/25/media/facebook-magazine-grow/index.html) moving into the print space
