Casar ropes Favco M2480D

02 April 2019

Australia-based tower crane specialist Marr Contracting has commissioned Casar Australia, the Australian branch of German crane and mining rope manufacturer Casar, to supply hoisting ropes for use on its 330 tonne capacity Favelle Favco M2480D heavy lift luffer.

Casar Australia will provide a 54 mm diameter Eurolift wire rope with a tensile strength of 2160 N/mm² which will be used as a hoist rope. It will also supply a 42 mm diameter Parafit rope which will be used as a boom luffing rope. A third replacement rope has also been ordered, although this will remain at Casar’s headquarters in Germany.

According to Casar, the M2480D has been modified with an extra-large drum to accommodate 1220 metres of the 54 mm Eurolift. Usually the M2480D operates with a 600-metre-long hoisting rope instead, said Casar.

Marr Contracting will use the Favelle Favco M2480D heavy lift luffer for 14 months starting in July, in order to construct the Çanakkale 1915 suspension bridge over the Dardanelles - a strait in the Mediterranean between the Aegean and the Sea of Marmara. Once complete, it will be the world’s longest span suspension bridge and carry a six-lane motorway.
