Dana Spicer 246 steering axle for rough terrain cranes
Updates have been announced for Dana’s new series of Spicer axles for rough terrain cranes. The new planetary rigid steering axles cover vehicles with lift capacities from 30 to 110 tonnes and are part of Dana’s complete drivetrain system for RT cranes.
Production of the first of these models – the Spicer 246 – begins in the first quarter of 2017, with 245 and 247 models to follow soon after.
The axles were developed at the Dana China Technical Center with engineering support from Dana’s other global technology centres. They will be manufactured by Dana in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China.
The new axles are designed to accommodate the company’s optional Spicer Smart Suite technology, a platform of integrated, connected-vehicle features that convert operating data from the drivetrain into actionable insights, the company said. Machine-learning algorithms are built into the software to optimise productivity by measuring performance, forecasting maintenance issues, and enabling capabilities such as load monitoring.
