German multinational conglomerate Thyssenkrupp AG has commissioned Liebherr Tower Cranes to provide planning, rental, assembly, service and dismantling services constructing a new production line at a cement works in Schelklingen, Germany, for HeidelbergCement.

Liebherr Tower Crane Solutions, the special projects consultancy services wing of Liebherr’s tower cranes division, provided a detailed construction plan on how to build the new plant while the cement works continued to operate. There was very little space available for the crane and so a tower crane was deemed to be the best solution. As a result, Liebherr Tower Crane Solutions recommended the use of a 1000 EC-H 50 Litronic tower crane, sourced from its own fleet of rental and used cranes.

In February 2017 the tower crane was assembled using two Liebherr mobile cranes, an LTM 1500 and an LTM 1100, which were provided by Felbermayr subsidiary Wimmer Maschinentransporte. For the construction

of the new production line, the tower crane was assembled in free-standing form up to 77.9 metres.

It is due to continue working in Schelklingen until mid-2018 and will achieve a final hook height of 163.4 metres and operate with a radius of up to 50 metres, using three guying systems on the building.
