Transformer transportation

24 July 2019

Hong Kong-based logistics and transportation specialist Wangfoong Transportation has transported three transformers weighing 170 tonnes each and eight 20-foot containers off a boat in Hong Kong harbour to a site inland. The containers measured 6.8m x 4.5 m x 5.1 m.

Wangfoong first provided a derrick barge to collect the cargo under hook alongside the vessel. It then transported the shipment by barge to a delivery site where it unloaded the transformers onto an eight-axles bogie and trailer using a floating crane.

From here the items were transported to the installation site with the assistance of pilot cars. At the installation site the items were unloaded and positioned using a 500-tonne capacity mobile crane and a jacking system. The whole operation was completed within two days.
