A joint venture between Bam Nuttall, the UK subsidiary of Dutch contractor Bam Group, and UK contractor Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £ 136 million (€ 154 million) contract to upgrade the M62 motorway in northern England.

The M62 works will take place along the 30 km stretch between junctions 25 and 30 and will include widening the road to four lanes, resurfacing and drainage improvements as well as the construction of new overhead sign gantries. Work is due to start between October and December this year, and be completed by 2014.

The project is part of the UK government Highways Agency's four-year National Major Projects Framework, which has a budget of up to £ 2 billion (€ 2,3 billion) to improve motorways across the country.
