German hospital project for BAM

A consortium led by the BAM group has been appointed to deliver a €520 million Schleswig-Holstein University Hospital project in Germany.
The public-private partnership venture with Vamed will involve the planning, development and renovation of some of the largest medical facilities in Europe.
Located at the university’s Kiel and Lubeck sites, the scheme is scheduled to start next year and will take an estimated six years to complete.
Work on the hospital, which employs 12,500 people, is part of a wider investment programme totalling €800 million towards enhancing its facilities.
As part of BAM’s contract, the company has been tasked with supplying technical management services to the redeveloped facilities over the next three decades.
Key financing for the project has been provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), which is contributing €400 million towards its development.
Vice president of the EIB, Wilhelm Molterer, said the revamp and expansion of the two hospital sites would result in energy savings of 20% for the hospital.
Development of the project is part of BAM’s wider focus on public-private initiatives, working on a total of 33 such schemes across Europe within education, road and rail sectors.
