“Question of the month„

15 April 2008

In February CE asked its survey respondents what they liked most about working in the construction industry. Given the choices of good pay & conditions, doing a creative & worthwhile job, the challenge of the job, working with good people, travel opportunities, career advancement prospects or ‘other', a third of respondents said the challenge was what gave them most satisfaction. This was closely followed by the 30% of people who said the creative aspects of working in construction was the attraction for them.

The incentive of good pay & conditions was a distant third, polling 12% of the results. Working with good people and travel opportunities were level with 9%, while career advancement as a motivator scored just 5%.

A handful of respondents ticked the ‘Other' box. While one respondent said this was because working with good people and the challenge of the work ranked equal, another said the main attraction of the construction industry for him – CE presumes the respondent was male because of the response – was “Big boy's toys!”
