The Olympic Delivery Authority, the UK agency responsible for the 2012 London Olympic Games, has unveiled plans and submitted the planning application for the white water canoe centre to be built in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, UK.

The plans incorporate a 300 metre international standard canoe/kayak slalom course, for which the white water will be created through a system of pumps.

There will also be a warm-up course and a finish lake. The course is to be constructed on land that is currently used as overflow parking for the River Lee Country Park Showground. The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority will operate the facility following the 2012 Olympic Games as a major sporting and leisure attraction. Landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates will design the grounds to include path and bridge networks to enhance spectator access throughout the facility.

Chairman of the London Organising Committee, Sebastian Coe said, "Broxbourne will provide a world class venue for the Games and an excellent facility for elite athlete and community usage following the Games. This facility lives-up to our promise of the 2012 Games leaving a lasting legacy for sport."

In addition to the physical course, plans for a new facility building designed by architect FaulknerBrowns have been submitted to include a reception, cafe, changing rooms, shop, offices, equipment storage, pump and filtration plant and spectator viewing facilities.
