All JCB's CE telehandlers meet EN15000

JCB has installed a patented "progressive" system of controlling the load to prevent telehandler tipping.

The entire JCB European telehandler range is certified to the new EN15000 standard which came into force on 1 October 2010.

EN15000 is essentially the harmonisation of a few basic standards, which cover LLMI (longitudinal load moment indicators) and LLMC (longitudinal load moment control). It addresses the forward tipping of a telehandler while static but manipulating loads. The standard applies to all telehandlers manufactured from 1 October 2010 but not those already on the market.

JCB has applied the standard to all its CE marked telehandlers, which encompasses the Loadall, Teletruk and Telemaster models. The company has addressed the issue in two ways: on the smaller Teletruks a "Two-Step" method has been employed and on the Telemasters and larger Loadalls a "Progressive" method.

Edward Heath, general manager of product sales at JCB, said that both solutions are designed to improve safety but also to cause minimum disruption to normal working practice and maintain productivity whenever possible.

The Two-Step and Progressive methods of helping prevent tipping are similar in that they use the LLMI to alert the controller that weight through the rear wheels of the telehandler is getting light through the outreach and position of the load. The values are fed into an electronic control unit and the movement of the load slowed and/or halted.

The two-step method is more basic with movement being dropped to a slower set movement before stopping. The progressive method controls the hydraulic flow gradually and also monitors a number of additional criteria to determine motion changes. A soft-stop also stops the inertia jolt which can also contribute to telehandler tipping.

JCB has equipped the machines with an operator override should the operator need to use it to bring the load down safely.

The adaptive load control feature also recognises when the machine is moving and prevents the limiting features, which is within the requirements of EN15000.
