Australian rental winners celebrated at HRIA awards

The Australian rental industry celebrated on 10-13 May with its annual awards dinner and convention. Winners included General Equipment Rentals (rental company of the year), Hiretech (supplier of the year) and Event Power and Light (smaller rental company of the year.
General Equipment Rentals is a forklift and access rental company based near Melbourne, while Event Power and Light is a family owned company located in Adelaide.
The awards were presented at the culmination of the annual Hire & Rental Industry Association (HRIA) industry convention, this year themed, ‘Hire Strength' and held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The full list of winners was as follows:
Rental Company of the Year - General Equipment Rentals
Rental Company of the Year (Under $3m) - Event Power and Light
Rental Company of the Year - Events Division - Excel Events
Supplier of the Year - Hiretech
Supplier of the Year - Events Division - Baytex Australia
Supplier of the Year - Access Division - JLG Industries
Best New Product - JLG Industries (for its 340AJ articulating boom)
NSW President's Award: ‘In recognition of service to the Hire & Rental Industry' Charlie DeBono
HRIA national president Mark Scarce, who presented the awards, said: "Our annual industry awards provide an opportunity to pay tribute to those companies providing outstanding service in all categories of the hire and rental market. We warmly congratulate all finalists and winners in the 2011 field."
The convention was deemed a great success, and takes place at a buoyant time for the Australian rental market.
"With recent natural disasters initiating industry stock market setbacks, the mining market for one, is nevertheless predicting a return to growth phase as demand for resources rebounds," Mr Scarce said.
"This is in line with financial market predictions late last year that Australia would soon move into its biggest mining boom phase yet, possibly the largest since the 1850s. This anticipated growth in the resources sector is really reverberating in all sections of the mining industry and creating demand for equipment from temporary camps for workers; power stations; underground cooling; to supplementary power grids, machinery and vehicles," Mr Scarce said.
"It will be the hire and rental industry that helps the mining industry meet much of this increased equipment and infrastructure demand, all the while offering good economic sense."
