Barnhart's view

19 March 2008

According to Jeff Latture at Barnhart Crane and Rigging in the US, the use of telescopic gantries in the rigging industry continues to rise. “The tools that were traditionally used primarily for machinery moving applications, such as press erection and machine lifting, continue to find new and unique applications in all types of industries.

“Gantries gained widespread use in the late 1990s in the US as the power generation market boomed. In addition, gantries were often the best option for the erection of gas turbines and generators. Since then, however, they continue to find application in projects such as ball mill erection, steam turbine generator erection and for your basic heavy lifting. As the capability of gantries, both height and capacity, increases, riggers will find new ways to put these tools to work.”
