UK water supplier Portsmouth Water is calling for contractors to help it develop a €155 million reservoir system in Havant, on the country’s south coast.

The company has issued contract notices for the two main elements of the Havant Thicket Reservoir (these being the main body of the 160 hectare reservoir and the associated pipeline), as well as framework for additional works.

At approximately 1.6km in length and 0.8km in width, the reservoir – which is being jointly developed by Portsmouth Water and Southern Water – will hold approximately 8,700 million litres of water.

Permissions for the construction of the reservoir are expected within weeks, with the project scheduled for completion by 2029.

Bob Taylor, chief executive at Portsmouth Water, said, “Havant Thicket Reservoir is a critical water resources scheme and a unique opportunity for innovative contractors to play a part in safeguarding our region’s water resources and benefitting the natural environment for decades to come.

“We want to hear from companies interested in helping us deliver this project and maximising its potential, particularly those who can bring innovative thinking to the project, positively support our communities through construction and minimise our impact on the environment.

“As a community-focused company, both we and Southern Water want to create opportunities for local employment and skills development through the scheme, leaving a really positive legacy.”
