Caterpillar and Redbird have agreed a marketing deal

Caterpillar has entered into a new marketing agreement with aerial data collection company Redbird, in the Europe, Africa and Middle East region.

Redbird, established in 2013, is described as a pioneer in the acquisition and analysis of aerial data collected by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones.

Cat said that Redbird’s ability both to collect drone data and provide analysis of that data using cloud-based, proprietary algorithms offered significant benefits for customers.

It added that developing relationships with a broad variety of companies like Redbird would accelerate Cat’s ability to help its customers become more productive, make better business decisions and optimise their operations.

George Taylor, vice president with responsibility for Cat’s marketing and digital division, said, “Caterpillar is always searching for ways to collaborate outside our four walls to give our customers and dealers a competitive edge.

“By joining with companies leading the way in the digital revolution, we have a chance positively to impact our customers’ and dealers’ businesses.”

John Carpenter, construction technology and solutions manager, said, “UAV data collection and Redbird's image analytics capability will provide customers with a variety of solutions for their operations, such as material inventory management, haul road optimisation and project progress to name a few."

According to Emmanuel de Maistre, CEO and co-founder of Redbird, “Drones are entering a new phase, with data analytics as the heart of this evolution.

“Our solutions have been developed with leading construction companies and quarry operators for the past two years, helping them extract the real value out of drone data. We are honoured by this collaboration with Caterpillar, which will bring tangible benefits to construction sites, mines and quarries, helping customers work faster and safer.”

Caterpillar said that in the coming months, it would continue to collaborate with Redbird and its dealer network to create awareness, educate and introduce customers to the benefits of technologies and innovation in the industry.
