Crane certification extension in question

17 February 2014

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the USA has issued a proposed rule to extend the deadline for the crane operator certification requirement to 10 November 2017. It is now entered in the Federal Register.

The original standard required crane operators to be certified by 10 November 2014. After issuing the proposal, concerns were raised regarding certification requirements, potential costs and whether operators should be tested by type and capacity. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking can be found here.

Comments can be submitted electronically at www.regulations.gov, the Federal e-Rulemaking Portal, or by facsimile or mail. See the Federal Register notice for submission details and additional information about this proposed rule. Comments must be submitted by 12 March 2014.
