Sembcorp Marine’s subsidiary Jurong Shipyard in Singapore has ordered two Liebherr offshore cranes for the Extended Well Test (EWT) FPSO vessel.

The cranes are type BOS 2600-35 EX LI and are manufactured by Liebherr-Werk Nenzing, based in Austria. The EWT FPSO vessel was originally the Navion Norvegia shuttle tanker. Jurong Shipyard was awarded the contract by OOGTK Libra GmbH & Co KG, a joint venture between Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore.

The EWT FPSO vessel will be used at the Libra oil field, a large, deepwater project with depths of around 2,500 metres in the Santos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The oil field is estimated to contain between 8 and 12 billion barrels of oil and is thought to be one of the largest deep-water oil accumulations globally.

OOGTK Libra will own and operate the FPSO, chartering it to Petrobras for 12 years, excluding options. The assembling and commissioning of the cranes will be carried out by Liebherr Singapore.

DI Johannes Malin, Liebherr-Werk Nenzing area manager, said, “This contract confirms our capabilities in the offshore oil and gas industry. We are very excited about this opportunity to work with Jurong Shipyard and OOGTK on this very important project.”

The cranes will be built at the Liebherr facility in Rostock Germany and are scheduled to be installed on the FPSO during the first quarter of 2016.
