Algeco Scotsman has appointed former UTC and Carrier Corp executive Duncan Gillis as its chief operating officer and president, reporting to Gerry Holthaus, the company's chairman and chief executive officer.

Before joining Algeco Scotsman, Mr Gillis held several positions with United Technologies Corporation (UTC), including president of the Global Security Products Group and president of Carrier's Asia Pacific Region based in Singapore. A former US infantry officer with an MBA from Cornell University, he has also worked with Procter & Gamble and McKinsey & Co.

Mr Gillis will be responsible for implementing "streamlined processes and operating efficiencies across the organisation", with a primary focus on branch and depot operations, sales and marketing and procurement. Bruno Roqueplo remains the chief executive officer of the European Algeco operation, reporting to Mr Gillis.

"When we brought together the European and North American businesses in October 2007, we envisioned integrating a chief operating officer within our global management group and Duncan is extremely well-suited to that task".

Mr Gillis said he was delighted to be joining the company; "The diversity of the customer base and geographic footprint provides some resiliency in the current economic climate. I'm delighted to join this well-established company and help guide the organization through today's marketplace as well as lay a foundation for the future."

Algeco Scotsman was formed in 2007 when North American-based Williams Scotsman merged with Europe's Algeco to form the world's largest renter of portable accommodation. Operating as Williams Scotsman in North America and Algeco in Europe, it has a fleet of more than 343000 units.
