High-spec knuckle boom crawler from Brennero Gru

Italian crane manufacturer Brennero Gru has developed a new high-specification articulating crane mounted on a crawler carrier.
The Brennero CWE 525 is a 52 tonne-metre Effer hydraulic folding crane on an in-house designed and built tracked carrier with four hydraulic outriggers. Development began 18 months ago and now the machine is CE marked and ready for export, according to Simone Scalabrini at Brennero Gru.
The machine’s high specification includes a system to automatically calculate available capacity with the outriggers in any position. It combines automatic stability control and automatic load capacity control. A dynamic reading of stability is constantly fed into the system and, during a lift, the percentage of capacity still available is displayed.
The specification also includes remote monitoring and fault diagnosis. It has a radio remote control from Scareco and the main valve block is from Danfoss. Everything is powered by a 55 kW Stage 3b Hatz diesel and a 400 Volt mains electric version is also available.
Compact dimensions are an important feature of the crane, Scalabrini said. Folded for transport the CWE 525 is 1,850 mm wide, 4,970 mm long and 2,590 mm tall. Maximum outrigger extension all round gives a spread of 6,630 mm x 6,380 mm.
The model shown is the top of the current range CWE 525.6+Jib 6S which means six hydraulic telescopic sections in the boom plus a six section jib on the end of that. Vertical reach is 31.5 metres and, with the boom and jib fully extended horizontally, reach is 29 m and capacity is still 580 kg.
The jib has a reverse angle capability which means that it can go back up on itself in relation to the main boom by as much as 20 degrees. This helps with posting loads in areas with limited space and restricted headroom. For positioning on site the maximum gradient capability for the knuckle boom crawler is given as 35 % without ballast.
Some units have already been sold to Switzerland, Scalabrini said, and Brennero is looking for further distribution in Europe. Other models are in development.
