JCB is to sell site welfare cabins under a licensing and manufacturing agreement with UK company Garic.

The Eco Welfare cabin – which will be the highest value product to use the JCB name under licence - will be available for sale or to hire through JCB’s UK dealership network and directly from Garic. There are no immediate plans to market JCB site cabins outside the UK.

The towable cabin comprises a canteen for six to ten people with microwave facilities, hot running water, anti-vandal security doors and a toilet.

The unit is powered by solar panels, which are supplemented by a 12 V super-silent generator. JCB said it will be “the most environmentally-friendly product on the market. It will reduce C02 emissions by as much as 80% and deliver fuel cost savings of up to £150 per week.”

John Atkinson, director and general manager, JCB Consumer Products, said Garic’s 11 years’ experience in solar technology, and more in the welfare market, made it the ideal partner; “With the launch of the JCB Eco Welfare Unit we are entering a new market with an industry-leading product that complements our existing range of plant. It will enable firms to supply a secure, comfortable space for employees, while reducing operating costs.”

Garic, based in Lancashire, UK, has developed equipment for the rail, motorway and construction industries for the past 30 years.

Gary Greally, Garic’s financial director, said; “JCB is highly selective over the products it chooses to bear its name. We have worked closely with the JCB team to design a bespoke unit which meets the highest standards of quality that are synonymous with the JCB brand…

“We’re excited to launch this partnership and look forward to bring our products to an even wider market.”

The unit is light enough to be towed by most commercial vehicles, with a hydraulic undercarriage enabling it to transform from a mobile unit into a secure static unit.
