MEC to enter boom market

MEC Aerial Work Platforms said it is developing a large range of self-propelled boom platforms with the first one to be unveiled at February's Rental Show in Las Vegas.

Company President Jim Tolle told ALH it will present the 40 foot working height M40T, a diesel telescopic boom, in Vegas. A 6 foot jib version, the M46TJ, and the first articulated machine, the M45AJ, will be available in January 2009.

“Now is the right time [to launch booms],” Tolle said. “Other manufacturers have aggressively launched booms, but there is not a lot of commonality among their products.” MEC, which is best known for its scissor lifts, said the machines will share drives, chassis, turrets, and power and hydraulic systems.

Other planned launched include a 66 foot and 80 foot telescopics as well as a 60 foot knuckle boom. Larger and small models – up to a 140 foot telescopic – are also planned.
