MTU's new Series 1300 engine meets EU Stage IV and US Tier 4 Final emissions legislation.

Engine manufacturer MTU showcased a range of engines at the Bauma China show, including Tier 4 Final models aimed at local OEMs with international distribution networks.

The company’s new Series 1300 engine was on display – a 340-380 kW model that meets EU Stage IV and US Tier 4 Final emissions standards using cooled exhaust gas recirculation and selective catalytic reduction aftertreatment technologies.

China does not have such stringent engine emissions legislation, but MTU executive vice president and head of engines and propulsion Christos Ramnialis said the 1300 was aimed at the export market.

“We see huge potential in providing Chinese OEMs with Tier 4 Final technology, not only ahead of future regulations in China, but also because equipment manufacturers here are no longer limited to operating domestically. They are now targeting international markets – we supply manufacturers such as Sany, Zoomlion and XCMG, for instance, which are looking outward as well as internally.”

Mr Ramnialis said MTU was also looking to expand its operations in China. He said it would be extending its product portfolio to include new power ranges – its 1000 to 1600 series ranges, for example – and would also be looking to expand regionally with new sales, parts and services outlets.
