Mammoet from factory to foundation

A fertiliser company in Canada called on Mammoet to complete a factory-to-foundation project. The client manufactures agricultural fertiliser and industrial nitrogen and required the replacement of a R-101 vessel at its plant in Southern Alberta.

The vessel was constructed in Austria and Mammoet transported it from Austria to Canada using several modes of transport, including a barge, a ship, and rail. Once the vessel arrived in Alberta, Mammoet removed the old R-101 vessel, weighing 904,000 pounds (410 tonnes). A Liebherr LR 11350 lattice boom crawler crane was deployed. At the time it was the biggest crane available in Canada, with a boom length of 126 metres and a capacity of 1,350 tonnes. It was needed because both the old and new vessel had to be lifted up 72 metres through the roof.

Mammoet said it worked around the clock to prepare and execute the lift and supported the client to minimise downtime. The new vessel was in within 2.5 hours, one day ahead of schedule.
