Monster moves

Currently under development, Rusch Kraantechniek in the Netherlands is building the largest high reach demolition rig in the world. The design features a 90 m (295 ft) boom and a heavily modified Cat 5110 tracked mining shovel. One might at first glance think that the transport issues surrounding this machine would be substantial. However, D&Ri understands that no more low loaders will be required to transport this giant from site to site than would be the case with a high reach excavator half its height.

Rusch says the design it has developed will allow the complete boom to be transported on one low loader, with the carrier and its additional counterweighting requiring a further two. D&Ri will report in more detail on this 90 m machine in the next issue, as the design has been completed and fabrication work has started on the boom, and the modifications of the carrier are under way.
