The alliance was launched last year to work towards globally interchangeable hydraulic work tools for excavators, and its founders see Volvo’s membership as the next stage in this progress.

“We are very happy that Volvo Construction Equipment also formally joins the alliance as a technology leading OEM,” said Open-S Alliance chairman Stefan Stockhaus.

“We also see that the interest is growing from other excavator brands. I am firmly convinced that open and standardised interfaces will give end customers major advantages. It makes it easier to use many different work-tool-brands without being locked into a proprietary solution owned by one manufacturer.”

Volvo, which has joined the alliance as a supporting member, has been delivering quick couplers and adaptors direct from the factory.
