Access International visited Palfinger Platform's Krefeld plant in Germany to see the first P480 in production.

Palfinger will launch the first model of its Jumbo class NX series at APEX, June 24-26 in at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam.

The P480 will be shown for the first time ever on a two-axle chassis with 48 meters of reach and an outreach of 31.5 meters. The P480 features a new X-jib that "allows precise work of the highest standard and gives the new Palfiner P480 access platform a freedom of movement never known before," the company said.

The manoeuvrability of the new P480 is in part to the new additional jib boom. The hydraulically operated X-jib between the upper boom and the workman basket gives the new P480 access platform with a 240-degree movement radius unparalleled abilities when it comes to assuming a precise position high up in the air. This is coupled together with a 400-degree (2x200 degrees) work basket rotation.

The new unit expands the potential range of applications for Palfiner units. With its weight-optimised design involving special profile structures and high-strength materials, the P480 "looks good on the scales as well."

The total weight of the truck access platform is below 18 tonnes, and its compact, space-saving design allows tools, accessories and material to be brought along on the vehicle.

“The range of applications for truck access platforms is growing at breakneck speed," said Palfinger Platforms product manager Susan Ruddiman. "With our many years of experience in the Jumbo class and the innovative technology in the new P480 Jumbo class next generation, we are able to satisfy these new profile applications."
