British-based Petrofac has been awarded a contract to develop a sour gathering centre at Burgan oil field, in the southeast of Kuwait, for the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for GC 32 has been valued at roughly $1.3 billion and is the first sour gathering centre to be developed in the field. It will process crude oil and the associated gas recovered from the Arifjan, Marat, Minagish Oolite and Burgan Wara high hydrogen sulphide fields.

With work due to start soon and scheduled to finish in mid-2020, Petrofac’s contract includes greenfield activities with tie-in works to existing brownfield infrastructure. Once completed, Petrofac says the site will have the capacity to produce about 120,000 barrels of oil per day, along with the accompanying water, gas and condensate.

Marwan Chedid, chief operating officer for the Petrofac group, said, “We are proud to continue our association with KOC and look forward to working closely with them to deliver the project.”
