Supercritical Power Plant's new generator

Supercritical Power Plant’s new generator weighs 296 tonnes

ALE has installed a steam turbine and a generator at the Supercritical Power Plant in Assiut, Egypt, as part of vital plans to increase electricity production.

The project required the turbine and generator to be lifted and then manoeuvred within the turbine hall before being lowered into position.

The steam turbine weighed 240 tonnes and measured 8 metres long. ALE’s team used a gantry and 200 tonne capacity strand jacks to lift the turbine 16 metres off the ground. The turbine was turned 90 degrees before the gantry was slid into position over the installation location using skidding beams. The turbine was then lowered into its final position.

The heavy lift solutions company repeated the same set of manoeuvres for the installation of the generator, which weighed 296 tonnes and measured 10 metres long.
