Tsurumi has launched a new range of contractor pumps incorporating electrode water sensors to automatically stop pump running dry for prolonged periods, and thereby significantly reduce energy consumption.

The Japanese manufacturer has added the sensors to the design of its KTV de-watering pumps to create the new KTVE range, which delivers pumping heads from 2 to 37 m.

The electrode sensors substitute for float switches used by other manufacturers and control the operation of the pumps' motors in response to water pressure. The new pumps shut down after one minute of any dry conditions to reduce pump wear and energy consumption.

Tsurumi's new pump range comes as European business is increasingly being prompted to become more environmentally aware. The European Union said last year that the EU as a whole wastes 20% of its energy due to inefficiency, with increasing energy efficiency in the construction sector being targeted as a top priority.

Meanwhile, the company has also launched a new model in its LB submersible pump series. The LB-1500 has a 1,5 kW power rating, a 17,5 m maximum head and a 440 l/min maximum capacity. It is the extension of the existing range, which already lists four smaller models, two at 480 W and two at 750 W. LB pumps are small submersible contractors' pumps suitable for a range of dewatering applications.
