Following the British government’s updated lockdown announcement that industries such as demolition should return to work where possible while maintaining social distancing, contractor R Collard has started two new demolition projects, in Brighton in the south of England and at Tower Hamlets, London. It is also continuing a previous contract at Thamesmead, also in London.

R Collard has started new projects in London and Brighton, UK

The Brighton project consists of stripping out all existing buildings, asbestos removals, full demolition of a redundant recycling centre, church and church hall, including removal of existing concrete slabs and foundations.

The site won materials will be crushed on site and stockpiled for the use by others and a reduce level dig is to be completed across the site in preparation for the piling mat installation. The project runs for 10 weeks.

The six-week project at Tower Hamlets involves the demolition of a former medical centre including demolition of the structure, removal of foundations and installation of a pile mat for the new development. Plant used at this site includes a 30 t excavator and crusher.

At Thamesmead, R Collard is engaged in an enabling and demolition project at a highly modelled form of linear housing from the 1960s. Work on site began with hoardings being erected, strip out of flats and licensed asbestos removal works, and demolition works to the south of the superstructure will commence in July. The expected project completion date is July next year.

The company said: “Together everyone at Collard Group has played their part for the company and our customers as coronavirus restrictions have gripped the country.”
