Saudi transport firm wins world record

Saudi Arabia’s Almajdouie Group has been awarded the Guinness World Record for “heaviest item moved by road freight.”
The specialized transport company became the first private company in the country to receive an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records after it undertook the transportation of eight evaporator units from a manufacturer in South Korea to the Ras Al Khair desalination plant in Saudi Arabia. Each unit weighs 4,891 tonnes and, when completed, the combined weight of all eight evaporators will exceed 41,000 tonnes.
The world record was broken when Almajdouie received the first evaporator – larger in size than a football field – from the ship and transported it 2 km by road to the desalination plant in the desert.
The Ras Al Khair desalination plant is a US$ 1.5 billion project, developed and built in South Korea, built in Saudi Arabia and, when fully operational, will produce 228 million gallons of drinking water a day – enough to provide drinking water for 3.5 million people.
Founded in 1965, Almajdouie Group is a member of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) and the Cargo Equipment Experts (CEE) networks in Saudi Arabia.
