United Rentals creates used equipment website

01 March 2010

United Rentals has created a used equipment web portal offering thousands of items for sale in more than 40 equipment categories. United said it will be one of the largest sources of pre-owned rental equipment sold directly by the owner.

Equipment can be sold to anywhere in the world and United is starting the venture by offering six months of free ‘United Guard' warranty - available up until 31 march 2010. The warranty provides free equipment inspections and service, covering the cost of labour and parts for most repairs.

All items are "value priced", with discounts offered on a selection of equipment is a ‘Special Values' section. Listings are searchable by category, keyword, model year, manufacturer and location. Shoppers can download images, specifications, prices and contact information by converting a search into a product sheet with one click.

The site currently holds details of over 6000 items, including 3007 aerial platforms, 449 earthmoving models, 500 telehandlers and 194 compressors. The list includes 2040 scissor lifts, 770 self-propelled booms and 124 skid steer loaders. There are 576 items in the Special Value section.

Michael Kneeland, chief executive officer of United Rentals, said, "By creating a secure channel for a large volume of online inventory, we have taken the uncertainty out of remote equipment purchases. Buyers have confidence in United Rentals. Our used equipment is an excellent option for anyone who wants to own a reliable, productive machine without the cost of purchasing it new."

The portal at www.unitedrentals.com/usedsales is open to buyers worldwide, with delivery and financing available in the United States and Canada.
